Daniel Silva – The Secret Servant (2008)
I’ve always enjoyed reading Silva books, and The Secret Servant (2008) is no exception. This is mainly a high-caliber kidnapping plot where ransom is demanded – and granted – but the kidnapped not released. A story that takes the famous art restorer, Gabriel Allon, to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Israel, London, Washington and back to London where he himself, eventually becomes abducted, making the situation graver than it already is, all in the efforts to rescue the original kidnapped, from the hands of very, very dangerous elements. Elements that believe in dying for the cause and having a place in Paradise. The concoction is cleverly devised by the writer that makes the reader want to read on and on. Highly recommended. A great story to keep you busy for a few days, if you are a slow reader.I’ve always enjoyed reading Silva books, and The Secret Servant (2008) is no exception. The Gabriel Allon hero in the story continues to make you want not want to put the book down, like others in this series. The locales where Gabriel goes are very descriptive, making you feel like you are right there with him- in Amsterdam, Germany, Denmark, and Israel. It is interesting to follow the members of his team from book to book. This book has the daughter of the American ambassador to England kidnapped by terrorists. Gabriel must race against time to get her back alive. The story gives you insight in the political dealings in today's world. Gabriel is a complex, conflicted hero, which makes him facinating to read.The Gabriel Allon hero in the story continues to make you want not want to put the book down, like others in this series.
