The book that got me into poetry

Many years ago, a friend showed me this book. I hadn't read poetry since going through a Sylvia Plath phase in my mid teens. This book changed all that and I spent the next few years buying various poetry compilations from charity shops until I realised who my favourite poets were. This is a great introduction to poetry, many will recognise some from their schooldays. I discovered Jenny Joseph 'Warning', and read it out at my mother's funeral. I also discovered a love of Yeats, among others. Would highly recommend as an introduction to popular poetry. My copy is dog-eared now. This one was a present for a poetry-loving Peruvian and is now in Lima,

  • Ideal for all wishing to explore the fascinating world of poetry

An excellent introduction to the merits of poetry for those wishing to increase their knowledge and understanding of the English language and enjoyment of verse in both serious and seriously funny form! Can be useful for keeping the memory on top form - try it!.

  • Great in every way.

Just read and fall in love with our great poets. I didn't think it would be so compelling. Proud of being British.
