Dragonwood is one fo Gamewright's more recent releases, and one of their strongest titles. At a first glance of the contents, it looks like a cutesy game, but it's anything but! Players gather teams of warriors to face enemies lurking in Dragonwood Forest, including two deadly dragons. There are rummy-style elements to the game, as you assemble warriors of similar "traits" (sequential or similar card numbers or similar card numbers) to plan your strategy. The battles are won or lost with a roll of the dice; the more warriors in the battle, the more dice you roll. The d6 dice are weighted for an average roll of 2.5 and a maximum roll of 4 per die. Much of the game is wagering your warriors against the odds. There are other elements to the game to provide twists, but they are left for you to discover. The game box and components are high quality. It comes in beautiful textured matted box, and looks beautiful on a bookcase. The red dice are acrylic and the cards nearly approach the quality of those seen in Fantasy Flight Games' card games. Dragonwood is a great value for its retail price, and is a near-perfect mix of chance and strategy. Children and adults can play together without it being frustrating or annoying for either, and everyone can appreciate its rustic fantasy theme.Read full review

It took a a bit to understand the game because reading the directions was a little confusing. We played once then Google searched the questions we had and were good to go!! This is a card and dice game. There are two sets of cards. One set has cards with a creature or feature that you are trying to capture. The captured cards include a few features that you may use once and discard or you can use throughout the game but most are the creatures with values that you will add up at the end of the game to see who won. The other set of cards are used by each player to to capture. Sounds complicated but it really isn't. It's all about chance and strategy. Hold your cards until you can make the best attempt to capture. But, if you hold too long another player may steal the creature you wanted. Fun with 2 players and even better with 4. Read full review

easy to set up, easy to learn & a nice time filler. The artwork is really nice & the colors are bright & do not have any ambiguity. A lightweight game that feels very Gamewright-y
