The cameras in this Fuji series share a nearly identical body (compare with the Mamiya, Bronica, Fujinon 60mm, or Fujica) and are available with fixed lenses that come in different focal lengths for different types of photography. These cameras use both 120 film and 220 film, and the cameras use a 6 X 4.5 format, plus they are known for having a very sharp lens. These Fuji cameras are designed to l let you see the images in the viewfinder in portrait orientation, rather than landscape, so the images are tall and thin rather than short and broad. This Fuji GS645 medium format camera camera is also unique in that the film runs across the back horizontally, which, in the case of 645 frame size means you have to rotate the camera's body to the vertical position in order to get horizontal frames. The camera features an exposure meter, greatly simplifying usage and making it very attractive for quick and easy photography. Shutter speeds in the leaf shutter go from 1s to 1/500s and it also has the T setting for long exposures. The aperture goes steplessly from f/3.4 to f/22. The minimum lens focusing distance is one meter. This Fuji GS645 camera has a pressure switch inside the case that lets you change between 120 film and 220 film. To engage the switch, simply press and slide it to accommodate the film you are using. An indicator on the camera reminds you which type of film is in your camera, and when you are using 120 film, you get 15 exposures, or for more exposures you can use 220 film. You get 30 exposures from 220 film. When you want to change the film, use the take up spool on the right side, near the film advance button to rewind the film and then the pop the back open. You then press down on the camera's red spool release button. Then, load new film in your GS645 camera from Fuji by sliding the new spool onto the spindles, locking the spindles by pressing the spool buttons, and drawing the film's paper leader tab to the camera's take up reel. The leader tab fits into a slot on the spool. When it is fastened, close the camera's case. Then, just advance the film far enough that you can see the start mark in the indicator window The film transport is manually operated with a single-stroke film advance lever on the top plate of the camera. Advancing the film also cocks the shutter. Surrounding the shutter release button is a release lock. A hot shoe is provided for external flash and can be synced at any shutter speed. The camera is powered by 2 LR44 batteries located on the bottom base plate. A tripod mount is also provided. To avoid photo damage by excessive light, the Fujifilm GS645 is equipped with an adjustable light meter. The camera also features an enhanced rangefinder to optimize focus in dim light. Additional enhancements include assisted framing support, baseline magnification, and shutter-flash syncing capabilities. Despite its sophisticated features, the Fuji GS645 is quite easy to operate.
