I purchased this as a gift for my niece - it is her first camera. I am a user of the the Olympus Pen and OMD systems, so I already am very familiar with Micro Four thirds. After reading the specs, I was confident that this model was great for beginners. It is not too complex in operation, but still allows for creative growth with its interchangeable lenses and many image modes. One of the strengths of this camera, as well as Micro Four Thirds as a whole, is delivering great image quality while retaining small camera size.

This camera is already 5+ generations old. That said, it's a great camera. In fact, its age makes it an incredible bargain. This is my second E-PL3. The only thing that keeps it from being 5 stars is the kit lens. It's extremely compact and of decent quality but I generally use the much higher quality Olympus Pro lenses and you can tell the difference.

Researched this camera after my daughter raved about hers. The picts. were amazing taken on auto. Imagine what kind of results I will get using all the other settings i.e. A, M and scenes. Going on a long cruise and road trip and can't wait to leave my heavy Nikon anchor at home. This camera has lots of whistles and bells and easy to use. Speed is incredible. I bought a 4/3 40-150MM lens with hood for overall coverage. I think I will use this one more than the kit lens that came with camera. Would highly recommend camera..great for the price..Bought mine used and was very happy. Why doesn't Olympus market in stores like Best Buy, and others like major camera stores?? Very happy customer.
Better than I thought, bought it on a whim and I highly recommend it. great product and price.

very nice camera. Use it mainly for underwater photography and puts out some pretty impressive pictures for such a small unit!
