The "slim" briefcase - slim being the operative word - is an excellent choice for its intended use. And that use is for a lightweight briefcase, carrying only papers (MAYBE a tablet - in a protective sleeve) and then the other stuff you always carry in a briefcase - business cards, a few pens, etc. And this what I use mine for - a daily, walk-to-the-office-without-a-bulky-briefcase. If I am on a business trip then I use a different Tumi briefcase (I happen to use an expandable one that has a built-in sling for a laptop and has space for lots more stuff). If you want just ONE briefcase, then you need at least 3 inches depth - not 2 or 2.5 inches. My expandable Tumi goes from 4-7 inches, but 4 is a bit big for just day-to-day use, and that is why I chose a slim case as well as the larger one. I also like the 16 inch length - 17 is getting too big for everyday use (a 17 inch case is ok if you are hanging it on a wheeled suitcase when traveling) - for every day use 15-16" is what you want to use. And, of course, Tumi ballistic nylon is absolutely indestructible (they have recently improved their fabric to negate corner "scuffs"). There is no comparison between Tumi and other brands - especially in nylon (leather is leather and using a leather briefcase is more of an image thing than it is a practical thing - and the Tumi image is as good as any whether or not it is nylon or leather).Read full review
