Originally molded in the 1960's, this classic kit has a good shape, but also some inaccuracies that can be remedied with aftermarket resin parts. The newer, Revell of Germany kit is slightly larger and more detailed, but suffers mightily from being based primarily on the three foot filming miniature instead of the 11 footer which has come to define this ship. With talented craftsmanship, this AMT oldie but goody can be turned into a beauty, but it takes extra money and a bit of research. Out of the box, the 1/350 Polar Lights kit is far superior, but also far larger. The 50th Anniversary boxing has the by now standard domed "planet" base that is featured in pretty much all Polar Lights space kits, and the secondary hull molding has been modified to accept this base. This kit is also not as accurate as the Polar Lights 1/1000 kit either, but if you want one large enough to light without it being TOO large, this is the kit to have.Read full review
