Overall i'm impressed with the N Scale Arnold U25C models. Detailing on the locomotives is great and printing is sharp and clear. The railings are delicate so be mindful of that. A really cool thing to mention is that the PCBs Arnold puts in these U-Boats have separate lights for headlights and number boards and they can operate independently of one another. The operation of the locos is smooth and quiet. Once I unpacked them I tested them out on my DC track first. Both ran smooth but one was SIGNIFICANTLY slower than the other. I wanted to convert mine to DCC right away so I had to remove the shell. It's not difficult other than you have to remove the couplers and that is the worst part of the whole deal. They don't come back through the opening very easily (nor do they go back in very easily). I lost one whole coupler when it exploded upon extraction and was eaten by the carpet monster. Putting the DCC in is easy since it uses a 6-pin decoder from Digitrax. The DCC did not fix the speed issue and that was a bummer since I wanted to run these as a consist. I got another deal from VRC hobbies on a U28C. The speed was better on this one but still a bit slower than i'd have liked. But with the DCC I was able to speed-match them for my consist. I'm always perplexed when two trains coming out of the same factory can have such a huge difference in speed. If you buy a pair from VRC Hobbies maybe you can ask them to check the locomotive speeds before shipping to you. I got two, brand new, highly detailed, smooth running, DCC ready U25C locomotives for $99.99 plus shipping from VRC Hobbies. That's a great deal on any planet. And on the third U28C i got an even better deal at just under $40 out the door!Read full review

Great value here (2018). I purchased the two-pack for $99. Very impressed with the quality of the models. It took a few minutes of run time for the models to break-in, but they work fine and have roughly the same scale speed as an Atlas product so easy to consist using DC. (2021) Recently upgraded one to DCC - easy upgrade with drop in decoder (DZ126IN). Second one actually caught on fire while doing the pre-DCC test run (proving it still worked on DC) - not sure what happen, but it needs a new light board and a patch on the roof (see photo).

Wish Arnold would come out with more engines. It’s a great piece, runs as good as the best Kato.
