As a music handset the W550i does reasonably well. Its 256MB of memory is certainly more than you'll get on many handsets, but it suffers from the absence of expansion-card support. The Disc2Phone software looks rudimentary but does its job. Sound quality is so-so rather than wonderful, though, and hardened music fans won't want to ditch their dedicated players. The camera took good quality stills.
I used to own one of these phones when it first came out buck it made a untimely end against a bedroom wall during a drunken argument with a girlfriend. Anyway I have allsorts of the new fangled phones and just didn't like them. This phone has incredible battery life and is good as a music player. The only thing letting it down is the lack of a memory expansion. The swivel action is different and quircky, the phone feels well built and solid it just feels right. the ringer is very loud and I have to say its the only phone I have turned the ringer volume down on from maximum. I actually bought one from ebay that had never been used but it wasn't working so while it was returned to see if it could be fixed I bought this one which is used for a third of the cost of the unused one and is in almost perfect condition its just a shame I can't cancel the other one. Availabilty of accessories is limited, you can still get batteries and casings along with advanced car handsfree kits but I can't get a mute box for love nor money so I can't get the sound through the stereo speakers. I really bought this phone through nostalgia but I am glad I did it is no where hnear as flimsy as more modern handsets although it won't do some of the stuff they do and the camera isn't brilliant. Cool little phone, swivel no slide as intially thought, gr8 mp3 player pretty loud and clear! Not keen on colour orange tho!! Scratches easily on centre front piece and on camera lense basically anywhere there is silver! Camera 1.3mp and it shows compared to the higher end of 3.2mp thr is a significant dfference although it does pretty well overall! Battery life not bad. Straight forward drag n drop to transfer files from pc to phone and phone to pc! Overall not a bad little phone!!
I bought this phone for my son, and after a couple of weeks the phone started playing up. It's kept showing a blank white screen, known as the "White Screen of Death". I tried to reflash the phone, using software I downloaded from the Sony Ericsson website, but this only gets to 94% complete and then crashes, leaving the phone completely useless. I'd never buy this phone model again. I've got a W850i and had no problems with it at all. I keep buying dud second-hand phones on eBay, so from now on I'll stick to buying new phones only.
Here we have a Sony Erricson W550i Mobile phone (Walkman), it´s an excellent phone that i got in a job lot being a dealer, it´s so good it´s now my personal mobile phone, it´s got a great 1.3 Megapixel Camera that´s excellent for photos, great internet wap at so fast speeds to download mucic and photo´s, and the computer connection is excellent, it took around 1 minute to plug in and start sending items from the computer to the phone, the best thing i like about this mobile is that is has three great speakers for MP3 music so i always hear it ring, i really like this phone and highly reccomend it as i usually only use Nokia mobile phone due to some other mobiles like sagem and Alcatel dying after around a month of buying them, so yes, it´s a great phone, worth going for, i rate this phone at 10 out of ten, EXCELLENT, Mobiles.4.YouRead full review
