Lid rotates easily to fill up in situ, but one de-merit, the whole top of the unit is rotated onto the cage, with what looks like a couple of pin connectors, so I'd suggest holding the top when you un twist the lid, or the whole cage will drop on the floor ! could have been held in place with self tapping screws

These feeders are the only ones that I have bought over many years that do actually keep the squirrels out. I do love them, but they are so distructive. All other feeders, even very pricy ones, were not up to the task. With these, the squirrels' arms cannot reach the actual plastic tube with the nuts or seeds, which is usually a big problem. Only once have they managed to undo the lid (which is not so easy) and climb inside. Very frustrated squirrels and happy birds.
