This product is labelled Rye Oil but they don t manufacture it. Maybe but it goes under their brand name. I have used a lot of solvent based black bitumen paints on corrugated metal roofs and other metal surfaces and this is the slowest drying by far. 24hrs + but still tacky then overcoated. It must be applied sparingly and uniformly if it is not to run and sag after application due to the slow drying cycle. So lot more care required than tolerant faster drying brands for uniform depth coating.

fast delivery ,good item ,does the job right firs time would recommend consistency is thicker than i thought but can add little bit white spirit and problem solved will penetrate deeper in the wood otherwise use as it is good stuff

Does exactly what it says on the tin.
Top-quality Bitumen Paint is worth every penny of the price. The paint is very thick so can be thinned down with white spirit so goes a very long way if treating porous surfaces. It seems to last well in the container as I had one from last year that had some left in and I used it first prior to ordering the new one and it was just fine. When applying the coating it goes on jet Black but seems to dry completely a very dark Grey colour which I don't mind at all. I have used it on wooden fences and outbuildings and the rainwater just runs clean off the wooden surfaces much better than other water-based treatments I have used in the past. It also lasts much longer than the proprietary water-based paints that I have used previously. I would recommend this item to anybody and feel that it ... In much of this slow drying phase the paint film is very inclined to be contaminated/spoiled by rain, trapped insects, dust etc, and, more seriously, run and gather into low points if painting non absorbant surfaces such as pitched corrugated steel roofs. Only counter measure is to apply carefully in even thin coats. Other bitumen paints tolerate thicker coats and less general care in even film application much better due to having faster evaporating solvent and can also be re-coated far quicker. In my experience as little as 3-4 hours so later rain far less of a concern than with this slow setting product. The paint itself is full bodied and once dry ... Just not as user friendly or tolerant of thicker application.The slow drying character of this brand would be less of an issue on level or absorbant surfaces. Very little smell of solvent so that may be a bonus for some users if it is to be applied in places with limited ventilation. Rye Oils who label it have stated to me that they do not manufacture this product theselves. There are no manufacturer details on the product and very limited information. It should be viewed as a budget paint rather than the choice of professionals requiring higher drying performance for rapid recoating and an even finish without risk of becoming runny in the drying cycle or contaminated/spoilt by later rain, dust, insects etc before touch dry.

Quality product, just paint on (wear gloves) a bit messy But creates a good seal and looks good as well ! Note: if you get it on you don’t use petrol or white spirit Use washing up liquid and sugar and a washing up sponge comes off a treat no smell of petrol keep the wife happy. Happy Wife Happy Life !
