    Lightweight binoculars for close-up observation

These binoculars are unique for their minimum focus distance of about 50 cm. They are designed for the specific purpose of allowing the observation of close-up objects, although they can focus up to infinity. Focusing at close range is easy and precise, and requires very little force with just a fingertip. Unavoidably, it takes quite a bit of rotation of the focus knob to change focus from infinity to closest distance. I chose the 6.5x model over the 8.5x because these binoculars have no image stabilization, and hand-holding the 8.5x model steady takes quite a bit more effort. These binoculars have a standard tripod mount, but require an adapter for mounting on tripods with a large camera base. Attaching an Arca or other tripod plate to the binoculars also requires an adapter. Eyepiece ...

  • Papilio- amazing find

Compared with Leica BCA 8x20 Trinovid. Papilio 6.6x21 is brighter and similiar flatness and field curverture. Brightness was obvious, and could be easily seen especially looking through the objective end, ( the lower mag will help here). I initially could not believe it and went is for a cup of tea. Colours were cleaner and whiter in Papilio. They handle well in the hand, objectives are a bit exposed to possible damage as not set back much. The coatings look improved very good Chinese green. Chromatic aberration is not an issue( and I hate this distortion). Flowers and insects look SPECTACULAR close up, detail you would never notice and insects hiding in flowers, A whole new world of oservation.I own about 15 pairs of good binoculars as a reference, from the above stated , Zeiss to Kuming EDs ...

  • Very good for close up viewing.

I bought these after using a pair owned by a friend for a couple of minutes. I have no regrets. These bins are excellent for close up viewing , the purpose for which I bought them. They are light and compact, easy to carry around.

  • Dragonfly watching

Bought specifically for observing dragonflies, the close-focus of these binoculars is proving very useful for looking at museum exhibits, small print, signs and so on. Small and lightweight, they are easy to carry. At close range you lose depth of field but this is more than compensated by the grear convenience of not having to crawl about to watch beetles, bees, ants etc.

  • Opens up a new world.

The ability to focus down to half a metre opens up a new world. Insects and flowers take on a new life. Particularly useful for those with mobility problems. Easy to focus. Good for specs wearers.
