    Great Story and Authentic Actors!

    This is an entertaining story that makes the viewer put himself in the place of the children and ask, "What would I do in that situation?" The setting of the rural South of long ago is pretty authentic, and the mountain scenery is beautiful. One thing that I liked in particular was the use of local people in small parts, and the fact that the professional actors mastered the Southern accents and didn`t overdo the "Southern drawl." I speak as someone who was reared in Alabama and cringe at some attempts of actors to speak with a Southern accent. The actors who played Kiser Pease, Romey, and Mary Call were especially good! I loved Mrs. Connell! I know a lady who speaks just as she did! I loved the way little Ima Dean says, "Romey, where`s m`doll?" and Romey`s accent when he says, "But I ...

    The scenes in the movie was very dark we depend lip reading are subtitles closed captioning so we were very disappointed. If you ever come across one that has cc or subtitles I would love to have one

    Great movie a lesson can be learned from this film

    I have loved this movie since I was a teenager back in 1984. This copy is excellent since they won't sell it except on VHS. Thank god for progress.
