Xaverii Crätz, Monachii & Ingolstadii [Munich & Ingolstadt] (1764). First German edition, text in Latin, woodcut device to title page. 580pp of text, following by a separately paginated 58pp of index to the rear, lacks folding engraved plate, 4to. Bound in contemporary calf, worn and scuffed, top board detached but present. Spine ends chipped, corners worn through. Splitting to the spine edges. Block edges red. Pages with toning, some spotting and sporadic foxing, but Good overall. A frequently-reprinted work, first published in Italian in Palermo in 1745. It was soon translated into Latin for wider distribution, with this being the first edition printed in Germany. Francesco Emanuele Cangiamila (1702-1763), canon of Palermo and later provincial inquisitor of Sicily, compiled the text as a treatise on all the subjects necessary to prevent children from dying before baptism - including confession, private hygiene, and obstetric medicine. 7" x 8.25"”
