The game is amazing, the details are just as Atari described. What Atari didn't say was that when taking the 360 version and putting it on PC they didn't optimize well, their multi player is crap and securom is nothing but trouble. Let's start with Optimization, this game is very tricky. It says it works with Vista but wouldn't even install on Vista Ultimate 32-Bit. It had to be run in XP SP2 mode. Once installed turn it on and you need a gamespy id. Start the game do the first mission, etc... Once you get into the game and you get a Lambo that does 150 no problem in a few seconds the game starts to lag and freeze up. This coming from someone that has a AMD FX62, Nvidia 8800GTS 320MB and 2GB RAM. I have also seen people with Nvidia 8800GTX and C2D and it also has a tendency to lag and freeze up. Especially when in multiplayer... Multiplayer seems like a good idea, everyone on the same island can see each other, play along, chat and what not. This all goes downhill when the players location on the map isn't updated realistically and when you find someone and click them by the time you get there they don't even come up on your radar or on screen. Along with that I must say once you do race someone it's fun and you can win or lose a lot of cash. Securom is what Atari uses to make sure you don't pirate the disc. What I don't see is that people that do pirate the disc usually don't care about online and don't care enough to even register... This is ridiculous and at times people can't play the game because it claims your cd is not authentic... Overall the game is solid, the cars are hot but there is no customization options. You choose the color of car, interior, 1 out of about 3 rims and that's all. All the engines sound the same, you can't close roof on convertible, physics are pretty much the same everywhere. ie; you crash into another car at 150 is the same at like 50. You can't paint over your original color choice and if you can I have yet to find that. It's a very large map, money is pretty easy to come across and if you like hot cars, racing, cruising and eye candy I would get this game.Read full review
Test drive unlimited is more of a driving simulator that really immerses you in to the game. You have alot of cars to chose from and an open world to test them. If you want to drive from one end of the island to the opposite end at more than 100 mph it might even take you up to half an hour, and that's a good thing. The size of the island is one of the most impressive things in the game especially sense everything is really diverse, nothing looks alike you could recognize if you have been there before right away. Just driving from one point to another is an experience and an adventure. You definitely have to play this game because this is not your typical "Need for Speed" kind of game.

I have been playing Test Drive (2000) for many years now. Boredom is not possible with this game. 5 cars to choose, 3 being accurately fast classic muscle. The handling of each is different, which is a challenge. 10 different race games to choose. You can race A to B type or circuit type. Then there is a navigational challenge (you drive and turn when the arrows tell you) and then a police pursuit. Each game is plastered with civilian traffic, sometimes in challenging positions on blind turns at blistering speeds. The music soundtrack is okay with its hip hop but it provides an option to file your own mp3 songs. Which is perfect for someone like me who has a vinyl record collection. Already have the digital copies on my PC. Made some short clips of each song. Which adds to the humor of some of the big crashes that can happen in this game. Which brings us to another great feature of this game; Replay. Replay the game you just raced and you will just laugh at your terrible driving or, the flying leap crash that happened or some other amusing fast traffic antics. Many of which might have you in stitches in laughter. Like football punting a Mini Cooper while racing in London driving a 1965 GTO when the sharp turn you take doesn't go according to plan. That sucker gets air! Test Drive, although now over 10 years old, is still a great game pleaser with its attention to detail and challenge of concentration in order to even finish a race in a respectable place holding. 1st place positions are not given away here.Read full review
