    Great paint for certain jobs, covering well and leaving a great shine.

    I have used Hammerite before but never on a rusty surface. I therefore cannot comment on how effective such paint is on rust. The paint is relatively thick to apply and dries reasonably quickly. I imagine it could be difficult to obtain a good finish when applied to a large, flat surface. Every time I have used it has been to apply to reasonably small areas - railings, lamp posts, metal garden furniture etc. and it is superb. In the past I have used the black paint but this time it was the red paint - a really great 'Post Office' red colour which was exactly what I was after. The finished effect is very smooth and has a fine gloss.

    batttered paint can

    Paint can was badly dented on one side and all over the base of the can. Tape held on the lid to the side except where the worse of the dented area was. paint was fine but if this was a shop then it would be sold in the reduced section. The wrapping was intact and no signs of the carnage inside. I messaged the company twice with no luck.

    Brilliant Colour

    Great to find a good strong colour of paint that can go direct to rust. Usually I have to use a rust to metal paiint and then find a metal top coat in the colours I want from another source for my outdoor sculptures.

    Thin poor coverage

    Bought to paint a garage door, relying on the Hammerite brand which has proven to be good in the past. Very thin with poor coverage. After two coats I gave up and bought a tin of “normal” paint at half the price which did the job admirably. I simply could not recommend this paint and will not use it in future.

    Good paint, but could be better

    The paint is OK, but the red pigment is not very dense, so it doesn't cover very well: 3 coats are often necessary rather than two. It simply isn't as good as the old hammerite with toluene solvent, because I had the remains of an old can to use up before starting this one. Its drying time is much the same as original hammerite, but it takes much longer to harden. However, it is still a good direct-to-metal paint, and I don't know of a better one.
