A Christmas Carol (Both Colorized and Black & White Edition). This is appreciated.

There are some years when you enjoy watching these and they are not always on regular television or on Netflix or the like. So, owning some of these are good to have. It is nice to own a few different ones, of these Christmas Carol, if just to see how things have evolved. The wonderful things that good men have brought to us over time is realized.

  • Miser Scrooge sees his VERY bad life......Christmas Classic 5 STARS~

PLOT: Miser sees the error of his ways. Alistair Sim is excellent as the miser Scrooge. He grudgingly gives Bob Cratchet Christmas day off. "Humbug" is the phrase when his nephew wishes him a 'Merry Christmas.' But in his sleep his dreams shows the 3 SPIRITS...one on his door knocker starts the tale of Christmas and we see the miserable lonely life that led Scrooge to be a miser. As Scrooge sees the misery of poverty even to the demise of Tiny Tim the youngest son of Cratchet the newly awakened Scrooge takes a turn for the better. He gives his housekeeper a "raise" who assumes he is crazy. But his "gifts of kindness" give Scrooge the ability to change for the better. Sims runs with this role. He is miserly right down to his filthy clothes and stand on end hair. When he suddenly finds his ...

  • A Christmas Carol ~ stars Alistair Sim

Many years ago, when first I met my husband, he introduced me to many movies that I had yet to see. One of them was "A Christmas Carol" starring Alistair Sim. I knew this classic Dickens story and had seen other versions of the story in movie form. But once I saw Alistair Sim as Mr. Scrooge...I was hooked! Mr. Sim wonderfully portrays Scrooge and in my mind has become the model to compare others against. The entire production is done to give the true Dickens feeling to this holiday classic. Tiny Tim is well portrayed and his lips even have a slight tinge of blue...indicative of a problem with normal breathing associated with his illness. From the moment the action begins it holds the attention of the viewer all the way through...and leaves all with a feeling that we should search our souls ...

  • Solid Gold

A Christmas Carol is one of my favorite books. I know it's a bit sentimental but the concept of a complete reversal of a wasted life remains inspirational to me. I've seen Alastair Sim's portrayal of Scrooge dozens of times but I nearly always watch it again during the Christmas holidays. For the dreary parts of the movie, the black & white version is superb; however, for the happier parts of the movie, the colorized version makes the contrast with Scrooge's current condition even more poignant. I think an ideal version of this movie would start out in B&W (using color only for the happy scenes from Scrooge's past and when showing the spirit of Christmas present) and, after Scrooge's change of heart, finish the movie in color. I'm glad that the DVD includes both the B&W and the ...

  • A Christmas Carol – Gone but not forgotten . . .

Every year on Christmas Eve, I looked forward to watching “A Christmas Carol”. I preferred the version staring Alistair Sim and liked to have it on while preparing many of the food items that we would serve to our family and friends on Christmas Day! Despite the number of channels that cable TV offers, the showing of this classic movie slowly began to disappear from the offerings on cable, and I began to feel like Christmas wasn’t Christmas anymore without at least a single viewing of this classic movie. Like any good shopper today, I turned to eBay to find a copy of the movie and found it in both VHS and DVD formats. I chose the DVD that gave me the option of viewing the movie in either the original black and white format or the “colorized” version. I now have a permanent copy of the ...
