About this product

Product Information

Philip Woodhall writes with an eye for accurate detail and an uncompromising, 'tell it like it is' sense of humour that is evident both in his life and written work. Iraq and Back tells the true story of a man who gets duped into joining the army and years later finds himself in the heat and fear of the desert in the Gulf during the largest mobilisation of the Territorial Army since the Second World War. Realising that he needs to do the right thing, he marries his childhood sweetheart after a 17-year engagement, in the short three-week period between notification and mobilisation. If you are looking for an all action war story about the conflict in Iraq, then this is not the book for you. It gives the real facts of the emotional roller coaster involved when leaving three young children and a wife, having never been away from home for more than two weeks before. Describing events as they happen through a series of emails sent home to hundreds of people, he writes straight from the heart telling what daily life is like out there for both a British Soldier and the Iraqi people. It concludes with having to readapt back into civilian life afterwards. Be guaranteed, you will laugh and you will cry...but make sure you read this book.

Item was just as described (near new) and I had excellent communication with this seller. The item arrived much sooner than expected, which was a nice surprise. The only downside was the item could have been packaged better as the packaging was torn in places, exposing the the dust jacket of the book when I received it. Overall, a positive transaction.

Package arrived as would expect in good condition & promptly from when ordered all items in great condition & as or as described in the description & for a good descent price & what better recomendation for a seller who provided a standard of service expected not just in a reasonable prompt delivery, price, & also a satisfied satisfaction in the quality of the items previously supported & recommended by other customer recommendations from ebay feedback but to want to be a repeat customer.

  • A fantastic read from cover to cover. I laughed and cried on the same page

This book is as accurate as you can get when it comes to detail. A very well written book that is easy to read and a real page turner. It's not a macho account but is tell it like it is. Funny and sad at the same time. A great read and well recommended. The TA played and important role and this account gives a good insight.
