This book had it's good and bad points. I found it a slow-read, and my least favorite of Anne Rice's vampire chronicles. It follows Lestat (a main character in the first five of the chronicle books) as he goes with Memnoch on a journey through the beginnings of the world as God made it, the evolution of animals and humans, and the development of the soul. Lestat travels with Memnoch to Heaven, Earth and Hell. He witnesses the procession as Jesus is headed toward his death, and he sees how souls are made to forgive the sins of their lives in Hell. It offered a new perspective on religion, one that some may find hard to swallow. Anne Rice has said this is her favorite of the vampire chronicle books, but I have to disagree this time. I read this book just to move on the the next in the series. If you aren't dead-set on reading the whole series, this one could be the one to skip.Read full review
Overall it was a great gripping read. I almost feel as I go through the chronicles each book gets a little less captivating. Lestat becomes obsessed with Dora, Rogers daughter and at the same time is compelled by the devil himself. The ending was pretty expected. However, I was very sad to see Armand just taken out like that abruptly. It almost seemed lazy writing to be honest. Overall, good read though. I would recommend it!

I love Anne Rice and this book only reinforces that feeling. She writes vampires, witches, angels, mummies and of course the devil and she does them all with thoroughly entertaining stories. This book is another triumph for Anne Rice and you will love it.

I have enjoyed Anne Rice's novels about vampires and witches, I have not found any other author that can write novels about vampires and witches as well as she does. The descriptions and phrases that she uses makes me feel like I am in the story with the characters. I enjoy reading her material.
Have owned and read this several times but now my copy is missing so I ordered another. Great book, I have most of her books and plan to complete my collection.

This book continues the story of LeStat. This is a look at LeStat's struggle with the good and evil of the nature of what he is. It is a wonderful expansion to who he is. It adds so much depth to his character. Even if you have never read any of the other Vampire books by Anne Rice, this book will intrigue you nonetheless. It is very well written and the new characters that are introduced are compelling. The "familiar faces," so to speak, continue to grow. It is an excellent addition to The Vampire Chronicles.

I am a big fan of Anne Rice, but when I read this book the first time, I was so hooked that I had to read it again!! The way she explains God and the Devil and the relationship between them is really interesting. This has got to be one of the best books she has written!! I originally checked this book out from the library, but since have added it to my collection of favorite books!!
I bought it to add to my Anne Rice book collection. Also because I hadn't read it yet. It was a bit slow and like most of the vampire chronicles repetetive. Even though being reminded of things past is good, it went way past. If you have read all the prior books then you're familiar with Lestat's journey. Ofcourse I love it because it's Anne Rice and her writing is superb. But the story lacked something, and I'm still not quite sure what that is.
If you are into the vampire world. Then this book is a must read. Anne truely is a great author. You pulls you into the realm and keeps you there. Entertaining and mind inspiring. you never want to put it down.
