emon Jelly were in a class of their own, idiosyncratic mesmerizing addictive music. I play this on repeat!
Lost Horizons is the second album release (and the first studio proper, since the previous album Lemonjelly.ky was a compilation of their debut EPs) from Lemon Jelly, released in October 2002. The album produced two charting singles in the UK, "Space Walk" and "Nice Weather for Ducks". It was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2003. The album has more organic instrumentation than its predecessor, hence the addition of session musicians. Several tracks have been used as incidental and ident music by the BBC. Part of the track "Curse of Ka'Zar" has been used by the Turner Classic Movies channel as background music to a promo for their 30 Days of Oscar month. The track Space Walk is set to a recording of Ed White's 1965 space walk on the Gemini 4 mission.
I really get KY, i like its creativity and production quality and sense of humour, more of which is displayed from Lost Horizons but unfortunately it dint leave me with the same aftertaste, maybe because this would not be a group i would usually go for so the 'genre' is lost on me (though lemon jelly don't fit in any box as far as i'm concerned'!) but anyway to me there were no stand out tracks and too many similar riffs and samples making this a predictable album....my highlight, the 'all the ducks are swimming in the water falalaldaralda sample' and the ramblin man ramble of all the travelled places. that doesn't at all take away from the obviously talented duo and co, the musicality is awesome, the ideas are brilliant, just formulaic in execution.
