    This story takes place in 1963 Hong Kong. An American business man with his assistant comes to Hong Kong to expand his business. Who should he link up with: The Noble House or the historic enemies of The Noble House who have sworn to destroy them by any means? We were first introduced to The Noble House and its founder, Dirk Struan, in Clavell's previous book Tai-Pan. The characters in this book are their modern-day descendents and they pick right up with the colorful, cut-throat, anything goes trading, that typifies Asian business.
