Having read this book, it is apparent that the authors create a fluid narrative of the history of development and testing of the Junkers Ju 287, the strangest jet airplane built by Nazi Germany in World War II. This book starts with a discussion of forward-swept wing technology from 1857 to the 1930s in the first two chapters, before proceeding to discuss early design studies for the Ju 287 (e.g. EF 122). The fourth chapter of this book comprehensively describes the construction, testing, and production plans for the Junkers Ju 287, including flight tests of the first prototype, photos of the nearly completed but unflown second prototype, descriptive characteristics of the other Ju 287 prototypes and planned production versions, drawings of the production aircraft, et cetera. It is quite clear that the Ju 287 flight test program was divided into three stages, first a low-speed FSW tech demonstrator, then a high-speed technology demonstrator, and then a prototype representing the production version. This book also talks about two Ju 287 versions test flown in the USSR after WW2, the EF 131 and EF 140. Read full review
