If your a fan of old school RPG's this game is for you. It evokes all the classic styling of framed franchises such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and slew of other great games in the genre but still carves out of a place of its own to feel unique. It has an engaging battle system that is fun to play and not to hard to use but still requires some forward thinking if you want to win and not get hammered. The sound and music are fantastic and, with really well done voice acting and a sweeping musical score that nails those engrossing and emotional moments. Last the graphics of this game is truly amazing. Lush vista's, strong visual design and great atmospheric lighting. The Unreal engine is really shown that it can do more than First-person shooter in terms of graphics, but that in the right hands it can produce some amazing and truly great graphics for a RPG and for the Xbox 360. Buy this game you will love every last moment of it.Read full review
A Consol RPG that spans 4 discs and approximately 80 hours of gameplay is worth a purchase (more then an hour of gameplay per dollar). Although you play an Immortal that can die... and you get an achievement for reading stories that are not only predictible, but also have no tie-in with the world you explore... and the fact that the only way I could play with the sound on was in the japansese voice acting... this was a fairly good game. Sure I have my gripes, but it's the type of last gen RPG that falls right in with FF10, yet adds so much more to explore and experience. The indepth storyline is interesting, however, the story didn't really present itself until the second disc. In the meantime, you are left to play the game without a clue of what's going on. I do think that might have been the intended result, so I can't mark that against the game. All in all, this game offers those of us who still want to play a classic JRPG without being pulled into the stupidity that is Enchanted Arms... For new players to the genre it offers new features and reintroduces the RPG in all its glory. 4/5, but it's a high 4.Read full review
This is a "VERY" good game. I cant give it an excellent because its not as good as the best JRPG I've ever played (Final Fantasy X) but it is very close. I was surprised that this game didn't get enough publicity because it definitely is a hidden gem. I was surprised however when I opened the case that this was a 4 disc game, considering its only a 40 hour game and it doesn't have huge environments. But its ok cuz as soon I was done disc 1 my friends wanted to play and it was kinda cool cuz at one point I had 3 of my friends in party chat all playing the same game. The only things I dont like about this game is that there are like 30 or more things called dream sequences. The dreams are well written and has nice music but is literally just a wall of text. And they ALL take 10-15 minutes to read. They are nice if you want to connect to the details of the games story but they take so long to read that they take you out of the atmoshere of Lost Odyssey's gameplay. You can skip them and also read them later but they make you get very board. Sometimes in the game you'll find yourself not knowing where to go since there is no objectives window and some of the cut scenes get a little laggy (low framerate) but that's not a big deal. Other than that the game is very good.Read full review
What I like most about this game are the visuals its a cut above most rpgs. Im still a die hard fan of the final fantasy series and would take one of their games over this one, but not to say this isnt a great game cuz it is. This game has a great story line, interesting characters and a huge world. I love the battle system in this game. It is turn based and that is my favorite battle system in an rpg, also hard to find these days most are real time. The battle system is very similar to Final Fantasy X. Bottom line if you liked Final Fantasy X for the PS2 you will like this game theres not much to complain about in this game. It has 4 discs so its a game that will keep you busy for a loooooong time, I still havent beat it. LOL
If you're a fan of Eastern RPGs, this is pretty much the best thing you will find on the 360 or PS3 right now. PS3 really has nothing right now to offer. The 360 has a few JRPGs but the only one that comes close to this one is Star Ocean. And Star Ocean is hindered by it's horrible dialogue and lack of editing. The story is actually pretty good. And the Dialogue is much better than any of the other JRPGs available right now. Gameplay is also fun. Though the first few bosses of the game can be very hard. It gets easier as you learn many more skills and customize your characters. You also will have a large part of chars to pick from. As well as a large number of spells and skills to chose from. This game could easily have been a Final Fantasy game. The music is even done by Nobuo Uematsu. I think the only thing I didn't like about the game was the boss of the game. He just seem kind of lame annoying to me. If you need a good rpg to hold you over till Final Fantasy 13 comes out, grab this one. It will give you a good 30-40 hours of gameplay at least.Read full review
