I bought this to replace my TalkTalk Huawei 635 which is very limited to configurate to my needs. The ASUS DSL-AC68U was so easy to set-up using the wizard, and I was soon connected to fibre broadband. I updated the firmware straight away to the latest version. I can now use NO-IP and port forwarding works fine. The 5G and 2.4G Wi-Fi bands are super strong. The ASUS is so user friendly, and I'm very pleased with my purchase.

For an older DSL modem router, this is still much better than any of the hubs you'll receive from any of the UK network providers. Mesh network support is good, although it cannot be configured as a mesh node. My current configuration is a as follows: A virginmedia superhub 2.0 set in modem mode (it router function is terrible), this DSL-AC68U as my head node, then two RT-AC68U routers as my nodes with an ethernet backhaul. The service for wireless devices is absolutely seamless throughout my home. The full set of features for this device is probably beyond what I'd fully use. The management interface (asuswrt) is great. I set a schedule for wifi to turn off at night to save on power. I can limit the bandwidth of certain clients connected to the network too, which I think is useful if you have lots of smart devices that are connected via wifi.Read full review

Upgraded to this from a Plusnet sagecom fibre router. The difference is quite noticeable. Range is much better and there are less dropouts too. I like the interface and also knowing that the FireWire can be upgraded / modded through the open source projects out there. Support for a vpn client is also very welcome after living with the sagecom basic setup for a little while.

Great modem/router. Easy customisation with Factory and Third party firmware. Use it as a modem at the moment but can be used in conjunction with other Asus modems/routesr or routers for Mesh Networking. Full VDSL speed with Vodafone 76/20 mbps.

Excellent router. Good points: 1. Good performance with one proviso - see below. 2. Excellent interface which is very quick with lots of options to tweak if you're that way inclined. However, it is also easy to set up if you're not interested in tweaking. 3. Brilliant free AiProtection by Trend Micro, which gives even more added protection from web nasties. 4. ASUS Merlin offshoot Gnuton (Google it) firmware for DSL routers is well worth using - enhances the already good ASUS firmware. 5. Although an older router, ASUS are still providing firmware updates as of writing. Excellent. 6. Previous connection issues with the modem have been sorted with latest firmwares. 7. Can be easily configure to run in router only mode so as to use another external modem. Not so good points: 1. Range, whilst good, is not as good as my previous router - Netgear R6250 which was really excellent, but doesn't appear to be supported now. 2. Modem is a MediaTek which is not as good as, say, a Broadcom and may not cope well if you are some distance from the exchange. However, note point 7 above. All in all, I really like this router.Read full review
