Funny but beware
I've loved this movie for a long time. Finally bought it and added it to my dvd collection. One warning to new watchers though, it's rated pg and there are at least two scenes that show women topless quite clearly. Lots or references to rape too. Great movie, but be careful with little ones.

Probably not a good movie for a 5 year old boy to watch. But luckily it wasn't to bad. Just silliness. Definitely a childhood hero all of my own
The 1st time I watched this movie was probably 40 years ago. So I thought it was the greatest thing in the world at 5. So all these years later I bought it for my sister and brought such smiles and happy memories. Sadly though, it was not near as funny as we had remembered:( My heart was almost broke until I thought since its been 40 years and I still remembered so much of it. Just grateful to find a classic that not a lot of people had ever heard of much less liked. Lost Treasure Found!!
This film should have been a comedy classic! There were just soooo many movies of this type on the market at the time this came out, it got overlooked. I really enjoyed Monty Python, Mel Brooks, Cheech & Chong, Pryor, Wilder and other comedy groups of the time. While they made me laugh, this one made me cry.... it was soooo funny! Just look at the cast and you'll chuckle. Totally outrageous, totally irreverent,and with no manners whatsoever! Marty Feldman was so himself, it was beautiful! This one's NOT for the little kiddos or for watching with my mother! IF YOU LIKE THE CAST, THIS IS THE FILM YOU HOPED THEY'ED MAKE!!This film should have been a comedy classic! Every Comedy fan Needs to see this movie!! Most should own it. A Classic all star Cast including members of (monty Python) Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, John Cleese, The well known duo Cheech & Chong along with more top notch comedy stars such as Marty Feldman, Madelin Kahn, Nigel Planer, Peter Boyle, Peter Cook, and more! This movie is as good as any monty Python film. This film is not pirates of the carribbean its from a time when the script & characters had to carry the movie rather than special effects.(nothing against POTC) The movie came at a bad time for a pirate theme & was vastly overlooked. Graham Chapman really shines in portrail of the intensely insane Yellowbeard. I never saw him get the chance to do this well in a python film or skit. Eric Idle plays a snobby officer in the ... Then you throw in Tommy Chong as an evil King (with a low IQ & a lisp) & Cheech Marin as his trusty servant who constantly insults him, but fears him as well. Marty Feldman plays a low life pirate & servant of the greedy Mr Moon. Feldman is as funny in this as he was in young frankenstein. Madeline Kahn plays the wife of yellowbeard aka a sex minded bar maid. Peter Boyle plays the evil & greedy Mr Moon an old acquaintance of yellowbeard. Peter Cook Plays the always drunken Lord lamborn, everyone like lamborn. And last mention is Nigel Planer(yes from the classic tv series "The young ones") The contrast from the young ones character (Neil) to the character he plays in yellowbeard really shows he's got talent. The plot here is one of greed & betrayal. After using Moons plan to steal the largest shipment of gold ever yellowbeard being the real leader proclaims the treasure as his own. As years go by while yellowbeard is imprisoned moon & the royal navy each plot to find & take the treasure for themselves.. This is where things get interesting, Buy or at Least rent this movie & find out the details. Enter the world of yellowbeard & its characters you wont be short changed in laughs per minute. If you like Monty Python Or Mel Brooks movies, then this is a "Must Have" Movie! This Unknown classic was only recently released on DVD get it Now before thier all gone. I dont think this will likely be in print that long. Oops I almost forgot to mention the nice musical score by John Morris is rely good as well.
