I suspect many people discard their microwaves when this shield burns through, not realising that a few pounds will save them the cost and bother of replacing an otherwise working machine. Nice to be able to make a simple repair rather than creating more waste.

Had a miniature lightning storm going on inside it - I guessed carbonised food spatter on the waveguide cover. Took out the damaged cover, laid it on top of the new mica sheet and drew around it then cut it to shape, stuck it into the microwave and everything is as good as new. Cuts easily with scissors apart from the two inset bits which were easily cut out with a craft knife. Two-minute job. Very happy.
