Jeff Bridges plays Jeff Lebowski, known as the Dude, a laid-back, easygoing burnout who happens to have the same name as a millionaire whose wife owes a lot of dangerous people a whole bunch of money--resulting in the Dude having his rug soiled, sending him spiraling into the Los Angeles underworld.The film is beautiful to look at, especially the scenes in the bowling alley, which feature a vast array of bizarre characters--including Steve Buscemi, John Turturro, Sam Elliott, and the movie-stealing, riotously funny John Goodman as the Dude's crazy best buddy. As usual in Coen brothers films (BARTON FINK, RAISING ARIZONA), the dialogue is hysterically warped; the plot is confusing, complicated, and kinetic; the soundtrack is virtually another character; and the acting is weirdly stellar. THE BIG LEBOWSKI is yet another thoroughly entertaining foray into the strange and fascinating world ruled by Joel and Ethan Coen.

    Jeff Bridges nails it again

    This is for Coen Bros. and Jeff Bridges fans. He is totally believable as an unemployed laid back bum who gets mixed up with a kidnapping scheme gone bad. John Goodman is also effective because you end up disgusted with his character, which mean he did a great acting job. The plot makes no sense, but you must appreciate the movie for the characters and the actors who did a great job in creating them.

    yea, you just cant help but get all wrapped up in this movie. cripes after all the poor guy was just getting along minding his own business when he gets dragged into all kinds of trouble. totally off the wall characters and a story line that takes you on unexpected turns make this very entertaining. sort of like pulp fiction in the way that you can watch it again and again and pick up things that you missed the first time and still be entertained. after seeing this movie many times through the years i am still grinning when i watch it and find that it is a great go to comfort movie.
