Very Good
A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. No obvious damage to the book cover, with the dust jacket (if applicable) included for hard covers. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. Some identifying marks on the inside cover, but this is minimal. Very little wear and tear. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

Reviews
Only this kind of courage and honesty can bring America back to the democratic values that we are so rightfully proud of. - Sebastian Junger "Artful, understated, surprising... We have read a lot about war lately, but we have never read anything like this." - Nick Flynn Startling... affecting... candid and deeply unsettling ... a beguiling personal narrative that forces readers to share his pain and uncertainty over his circumstances." - Kirkus, starred review

Synopsis
Named one of "8 Books You Need to Read" by Vulture In 2004, after several months as an interrogator, Eric Fair's call to serve his country has led him to a dark and frightening place. By the time he leaves Iraq after that first deployment, Fair will have participated in or witnessed a variety of aggressive interrogation techniques including sleep deprivation, stress positions, diet manipulation, exposure, and isolation. Years later, with his health and marriage crumbling, haunted by the role he played in what we now know as "enhanced interrogation," it is Fair's desire to speak out that becomes a key to his survival. Spare and haunting, Eric Fair's memoir urgently questions the very depths of who he, and we as a country, have become., Named one of 8 Books You Need to Read by Vulture In 2004, after several months as an interrogator, Eric Fair's call to serve his country has led him to a dark and frightening place. - i***r (41)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseI bought a hardcover copy of Smoke Bitten. The listing noted that it could be a library copy, and that it would take 5 business days to come. It came in 3 business days (+wknd was 5 days total) in an envelope, and was a library copy. Bc I knew it was a discard, I was anticipating rough condition, but it was in very good condition, with only one small ding on the front cover. For the price I paid, I am very happy with the book and the service. I would buy from this seller again.
