Ive used this mallet instead of the lignum vitae one and would recommend it thoroughly. It has good contact, no rebound and I have the small one so I don't have arm strain as I work on large sandstone pieces. I would say it can make your hand edge sore with the noggin at the end of the handle, the lignum had a better handle. I wrap a bit of cloth round it to soften the shape.
