I purchased this fine reference book as a gift for a friend that was interested in 1601-1700 coins of the world. The catalog/book was in new condition was quality made, good paper and designed to be used for a long period of time. There are reference books specific to country where the cost would be prohibitive but this single volume (all 1439 pages) covered most or all varieties and included photos of the items being described. Very definitive massive reference work for anyone interested in this type of collecting or just the history behind the countries and the coins . Best Regards
This book is a must have when working with coins from the 17th Century. It can help your guess as to which country the destroyed coin is from. I bought the book because of the German States, but I recently found out the 3rd Edition of a Standard Catalogue entirely dedicated to German States is coming out in 2011. I am still happy I bought this book, because to have it in my library and being able to price a coin is what all collectors want and need. Just browsing through the book can spark your interest in a country. Also, you might find a denomination a country used that you never knew about and learn something. Collecting foreign coins is very histrical and educational, and the beauty might surprise you! Happy Collecting!
This book is very easy to use and the photo,s are great when you need to identify a coin with a forign language i have all four books covering from 1600 to 2005 and always find them useful.
