This is a recording or live preamp/mixer. CH 1 and 2 have multiple preamp emulation choices (nice). It has optical in and out, TRS outs, word clock, SPDIF. I am learning to use it with acid pro. For me, a little hard at first to understand, but got it almost going in a day and a half. Great specs and if you shop you get a lot of bang for the buck. Two hi end mic pre's, ch 3 and 4 have added direct instrument TR inputs, all channels 1 thru 8 have XLR and TRS in puts and source assignable TRS outputs. You can save the setting to CMOS and use the unit standalone on live gigs. It is taking me a while to get running as I want to have the Mics, drums, guitars go from it to the DAW clean with no processing, yet use the outputs to connect to the analog outboard gear to get the processed inspired "feel" while recording. Recording to the DAW clean allows me to change my mind on how much and what kind of processing/effects to settle on in the final mix. Very versatile unit, high end (sampling up to 192), and very cost effective. I think I got mine as a refurb for 7 or 8 hundred. Go to Focusrite.com for details and manuals.Read full review
I really wanted an Apogee or Universal Audio Apollo, but couldn't justify the $2000.00 or so that they would've cost. I did some research and, for the price (under $1000.00) the Focusrite Liquid 56 seemed to be the best option. I, at this point have used it enough to say it works great. I have a lot of old pro tools sessions that i want to edit, convert and remix for Reason and Live and have enough channels to play with. I don't think I've really run it through it paces yet, and haven't had a chance to put the liquid channels through their paces, but if something comes up, i will edit this review. Also part of my decision, the Liquid 56 is among some products that can be modified by Black Lion Audio, making it better in terms of "high end" audio quality.
This is for live recordings - the pres are very good and the inputs/outputs are all that one could possibly use. The fact that you can have mics and lines connected at the same time and select them digitally is a time saver and makes for a clean setup. In addition, the 16ch of ADAT, SPDIF and Word Clock IN/OUT give this unit all the digital connection and sync options necessary for most situations. THe pres sound very pristine and clear, not edgy. With a full, warm result with a variety of mics. The MIX software is easy to use and allows to different CUE mixes.
Excellent interface! the Liquid pres offer some nice options for color, and the zero latency tracking makes nailing a take very easy. The other mic pres sound great as well. lots of I/O options well worth the money.
This thing is so amazing! It hooked up flawlessly and works like a charm. The A/D converters sound amazing and the digital mixer is incredible. Bottom line this was a great buy! I highly recommend it!!!!!!
