About this product

Product Information

MEET THE PARENTS stars Ben Stiller as the unfortunately named Greg Focker, a neurotic nurse intent on marrying his girlfriend, Pam (Teri Polo). But when the couple visits Pam's family home for her sister's wedding, he must first win the approval of her father, Jack (Robert De Niro), a protective ex-CIA agent. Before long, the awkward Greg and the suspicious Jack go head-to-head, resulting in hilarious scenes that feature a lie detector test, a suburban car chase, a toilet-trained cat, and a mean game of water volleyball. As the misunderstandings and mistakes reach an almost nightmarish peak, it seems as though Greg may never win over Pam's unflinching guardian.

Featuring the inspired pairing of Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller (and an excellent appearance by Owen Wilson), director Jay Roach's clever comedy exemplifies every man's worst fears about courtship. When things for Stiller's character get bad, they just continue to get worse, culminating in a ridiculously funny airport scene. In the tradition of ANNIE HALL and FLIRTING WITH DISASTER, MEET THE PARENTS is an intelligent yet slapstick comedy about the eccentricities of the American family.

OK, this item was only £1.20 with £1.99 postage and the CD plays alright. But, this is yet another example of a seller listing an item as "used very good" when it clearly isn't in very good condition. The jewel was not only broken on the outside but also on the inside. Luckily I have a stash of brand new jewel cases and was able to swap it over. I accept that it could have been broken in transit, but had the item been packed better, it wouldn't have happened. Hence the neutral review.

Item arrived promptly!! CD worked fine but the CD case itself arrived damaged!! Notified the seller twice about this issue but I unfortunately had no response at all from the seller!! So I had to replace the case myself where unfortunately I won't be dealing with this seller again!!

  • Meet The Parents

Have the Yanks finally ditched their terrible slapstick humour in favour of the more subtle British kind. It would seem so! Meet the Parents is a welcome change: it portrays two lovers who want to get married but the would-be groom finds out that his future father-in-law is a stickler for tradition and would like to be asked to give his permission for the marriage. Unfortunately, things go wrong as soon as they get to the airport on their way to the bride's parents. The poor sap can't put foot right in De Niro's eyes. It doesn't help that De Niro is playing an ex-CIA agent who is still well-in with his old comrades in arms and is more than willing to pull strings. Much of the fun is verbal so you often find yourself wondering, "Did he really say that?" Well, of course, he didn't. It's ...

  • De niro keeps gettin better and better!!!!!!

It's not often you find a film that has you sniggering like a schoolchild at the back of the class all the way through, but 'Meet the parents' certainly goes way up my list for genuinely funny innuendos and 'could it get any worse' scenarios. This film is great entertainment. Watch it after a stressful day to unwind and you'll be sure to forget your woes. It's predictable, corny in places and you'll cringe with embarrassment, but it really is an utterly funny film. Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) spends a weekend with his girlfriend, Pam Byrnes (Teri Polo) and her parents (Jack played by Robert De Niro and Dina, played by Blythe Danner) with the intention of asking her father for Pam's hand in marriage. Jack takes an instant dislike to Greg, so Greg tries hard to impress and win over the ...
