An American family adjusts to social change in this two-time Emmy winning series. Amidst a backdrop of American Bandstand, 1960s era pop music, and other cultural icons, the characters in this story grapple with many issues of the day, including the death of a president, Civil Rights, and women's emancipation. Still somewhat entrenched in the straightlaced ideas of the 1950s, each family member is challenged as old ideas are replaced by new. This first season in the series that follows the Pryor family (Brittany Snow) whose squeaky-clean image is questioned when she becomes an American Bandstand. Her mother, Helen (Gail O'Grady), has recently gone back to school and learns the true price of trying to have it all. Husband Jack (Tom Verica) is considering a career as a politician amidst great controversy and turbulence. Football star JJ (Will Estes) is a high school football star wrapped up in romantic troubles. This season is punctuated by performers Usher (as a young Marvin Gaye), Ashanti (as Dionne Warwick), and Vanessa Carlton (as Dusty Springfield). Hey, even Robby Benson makes an interesting comeback here, as Helen's Professor.

    An amazing TV series that totally deserves a Blu-ray HD 16:9 reissue. Only series one is officially available on DVD. A Blu-ray complete box set would be awesome. More people need to learn just how good this series is.

    Nostalgic !!!

    For sure - "My Generation" --- growing up as a kid in the sixties, this series brought back a lot of memories, what a great concept on Dick Clark's idea and well done , especially the camera angle showing the camera view in B/W facing the stage that is in color (live) out of focus -Fantastic , and having the songs of yesterday performed by today's artist's. Handling the sensitive subjects of the time with a great ensemble of actors is very engaging , and the opening song with images of what was going on in this era was sheer Perfection !- especially love the (NBC) Peacock in B/W closing up it's feathers and opening back up in color - WOW ! - I so remember that ... Highly recommend this DVD set , if one is born later , it would be an educational view for what your parents may have ...

    Great Deal

    I am really enjoying these shows again. There is so much in this series. Music, history and nostalgia. My 16 year daughter and I watched this together when it was on originally and it sparked a lot of great conversations. I really wish it would have been able to play out longer. Well worth your time to watch.
