Old School, But Still Good And Worth Having.
Although stroboscopic speed monitoring is old school technology, as the AT6180 is very light, it can be popped on top of a record before playing and provide a longer period of speed monitoring during play. The speed is not adjustable on my turntable, I just want to check now and then that its motor and belt are working OK at the correct speed. Mobile phone apps can provide perhaps more accurate speed measurement and more data, but can be a bit cumbersome. The one I use tells me it is rotating at 34.1 rpm, but then stops after about 10 seconds. The AT Strobe disc shows slightly fast rotation, but the marks are static when the stylus touches the groove, as they should be. One point worth mentioning in these days of LED home lighting, the instructions show that only fluorescent bulbs can be ...
