Reviews
A delicious culinary romp from the beaches of Bombay to the peaks of Paris Haute Cuisine. Very charming and a delight to savor." --Padma Lakshmi, author of Tangy, Tart, Hot and Sweet and host of Bravo TV's Top Chef, Serious foodies will swoon. Morais throws himself into the kind of descriptive writing that makes reading a gastronomic event., This novel, of mythic proportions yet told with truly heartfelt realism, is a stunning tribute to the devotion of family and food, in that order.

Synopsis
Now a major motion picture starring Helen Mirren and Om Puri, produced by Juliet Blake, Oprah Winfrey, and Steven Spielberg: the culinary fairytale--hailed as " Slumdog Millionaire meets Ratatouille " by The New York Times Book Review --about a young Indian boy who becomes a three-star chef in Paris. Born above his grandfather's modest restaurant in Mumbai, Hassan Haji first experienced life through intoxicating whiffs of spicy fish curry, trips to the local markets, and gourmet outings with his mother. But when tragedy strikes, the Hajis leave India and embark on a journey around the world, eventually opening an Indian restaurant in Lumière, a small town in the French Alps. The family takes the village by storm, provoking the ire of their neighbor--Madame Mallory, the proprietress of an esteemed French relais . Only after waging culinary war with the immigrant family does Madame Mallory finally agree to mentor young Hassan, leading him to Paris and a host of new adventures. A testament to the inevitability of destiny, this is a fable for the ages: charming, endearing, and compulsively readable., Now a major motion picture starring Helen Mirren and Om Puri, produced by Juliet Blake, Oprah Winfrey, and Steven Spielberg: the culinary fairytale--hailed as " Slumdog Millionaire meets Ratatouille " by The New York Times Book Review --about a young Indian boy who becomes a three-star chef in Paris. This is an outstanding seller to deal with. Fair prices that are more than reasonable in this economy. The product is in better condition than described, a true value for my money. Packaged and shipped well shows seller has concern for the products he sells to arrive in excellent condition. The seller is friendly and communicates timely with his customers. I highly recommend this seller and would do business again anytime. Thank you!

Great seller! Item is what I ordered; good communication; shipped promptly; good value. NOTE TO SELLER: packaging was NOT appropriate for item; it was a flimsy, plastic envelope, with no stiff material to prevent creases. The book came with two deep creases that involved the *entire* item: one is a 1" triangle lower left side (bound edge); the other is a 7" triangle on upper right side (open edge).

  • A Good Read, But Could Have Been Better

The book is an easy read and really interesting if you like life stories. I really liked the first part of the book as he was growing. The characters surrounding him were fascinating. But later in the book when he has his own restaurant, it got slow for me. Also, the movie trailers and the book covers are deceiving - the characters played by Helen Mirren and Charlotte Le Bon are not in the book so much, nor is it a love story.
