Seller recommended! Arrived sooner than expected, Seller took great care to examine, package and ship item, noting very small flaw they had not seen before listing & offered reduction in cost. Very appreciated though not necessary because the flaw was so small. Thank you, pitmaster.

    Without Hesitation...

This translation rejuvinated my desire to just "read the Bible" rather than read because I need to prepare a study or sermon. And this format, slightly padded hard cover, is the better format of the ones I've tried for this particular translation. In fact, it's the only one I recommend to other readers for this translation. I use this book every day to "read the Bible rather than study from it." Even though I have an advanced degree in Biblicalstudies, this translation provides a fresh and exciting perspective--it's a joy to read! Thanks for this opportunity to share.

  • Most critical review

This copy was not a good purchase.

The listing said "good" condition, though it should not have even been listed for sale. It looked like it had coffee spilled all through the pages, which are now misshapen and won't lay flat. Had I known the real condition of this copy of The Message, I would NOT have purchased it for any amount (I paid $7.99). I love The Message version of the Bible, just NOT this particular copy.

  • Classic version of The Message bible

The Personal Size version of The Message Numbered Edition was their best-designed line of bibles, IMO. From genuine & bonded leather to several faux Leather-Look bindings these bibles were elegant and handsome in their presentation, comfortable in the hand, and the perfect size (8-1/4" x 5-1/2" x 1-1/4”) for portable reading. Highlights in the selection of bindings included: limp black genuine leather with pewter stamping and silver gilt edges, smooth burgundy bonded leather with gold gilt, and the unique and wonderfully soft faux 'distressed leather'.

  • Adds an Intriguing Twist to Bible Studies

The Message is more a commentary on the scriptures than a translation. Peterson sounds modern (occasionally hip?), and uses sometimes too-timely images and turns of phrase, which may make it feel out of date in a few years. Yet for a reader or Bible study group that enjoys a fresh take, it is useful, even fun, to see how Peterson says it. He has some astonishing insights, This should not be the only or even first Bible a reader uses, but it is a great add-on. The only real criticisms I've heard (three of them) are not from people who are studying the Bible message but those who miss the cadences of traditional translations. I bought it for my daughter, who grew up on the Bible but hasn't read it for awhile. I think she'll enjoy it.

  • The Message~ Great

I was skeptical at first about this translation. I was afraid it would try to jazz-up the old familiar stories or make them "hip" to the new generation. But after reading Peterson's intentions in his foreword, I was pleased to learn that he studied Hebrew, Greek, etc. in order to accurately write this edition. He also notes that this book should not replace Bible reading in its original form, but be used to generate interest in the stories by better understanding them. I have found no interpretive conflicts between this Bible and my MacArthur or Stanley Bibles. I am reading it cover to cover for my daily reading and find it quite enjoyable. We often use it to more fully understand passages during devotions. This edition is the numbered edition in which the numbers correspond to the verse ...
