Incredible value for the price
I just installed this pickup into the bridge position of a 25.5" scale guitar with a pine body and maple neck. This pickup sounds awesome. I was a little worried it would be too hot, when purchasing I would have preferred something in the 8k to 8.5k range, but the 9.2 k winding seem fine and perfectly classic sounding, which is what I wanted. The magnet bars really are Alnico. There's no way of knowing which formula just by looking, but since they are advertising as Alnico 5, I would imagine that;s what they are as all other specs given by the manufacturer seem to be spot on. I do love the sound of this pickup. It matches nicely with the lower output Jazzmaster pickup I have in the neck position. That being said I have very little first hand experience playing through a p-90 but have heard ... Even so, given that this guitar isn't made of Mahogany and most P-90 equipped guitars are, the comparison would likely not be an even one anyway. With the setup and scale of my guitar this pickup produces great respond across all frequencies with the a noticeable sharp attach. Which I love. But with a shorter scale length and softer wood chooses I;m sure that response would move more toward the mids and bass than it is now. Which is what most people seem to like. I am also running the pickups into a 500k Volume pot with a treble bleed circuit and no tone knob. So it stays spiky for me, which is what I like. I bought this pickup due to my recent interest in the band, The Wipers. The lone guitar in the band is usually a p-90 equipped SG. With the right pedal and amp settings I can get that tone easily with this pickup. Given my lack of experience with P-90's I feel certain that a better pickup can be had but for quite a bit more money. If I were going to buy an aftermarket pickup that was made in the far east, Guitar Madness is the place I would start. I used to only use hand wound pickups made in North American, But prices lately have sky-rocketed and I just wanted to try something new, that if I didn't like, could swap back out with out much buyers remorse, and this fits that bill perfectly. But like I said. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and sound. Shipping was fast too.
