Synopsis
What do you want to do today? Leading neurobiologist Montague takes us on a guided tour of our decision making processes, with this exploration of what exactly determines the cnoices we make., A director in theoretical neuroscience introduces readers to the latest findings in the science of decision-making, offering an accessible discussion of the origins of aesthetic choices, ethical behavior, financial decisions, and more, in an account that also connects behavioral science to mental illness and addiction., To the list of writers connecting mainstream readers and cutting-edge scienceMalcolm Gladwell, Steven Johnson, James Surowieckiadd Read Montague, with this exploration of what exactly determines the choices we make. With a new perspective on the science of decision-making from the researcher at the center of the computational neuroscience revolution, "Why Choose This Book?" shows what the latest brain science reveals about the crucial events of everyday experiencethe choices we make. From how we decide what we consume to what kind of art we like, and even the romantic, ethical, and financial choices we make, Read Montague guides the reader through a new approach to the mind with an accessible style that is both entertaining and illuminating. Second, he reveals how simple goals like these then turn into ideas like beauty, love, and terror with a life of their own. Finally, he explains how a value system in our heads controls those ideas so we can make good decisionsand how that physical system can break down leading to bad decisions, addictions, mental illness, and even large economic disasters., Connecting mainstream readers and cutting-edge technology, Montague shows what the latest in brain science reveals about the crucial events of everyday experience., From the researcher at the centre of the computational neuroscience revolution: Read Montague's entertaining and illuminating book reveals what the latest brain science reveals about the choices we make. - e***n (390)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseGreat transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville. The seller was very responsive and I decided it was interesting to see if/how the book would arrive. Thanks, Joe
