I decided to buy this because I know the piece - the choreography of the Sinatra Suite is amazing - Elaine Kudo is terrific and Baryshnikov partners her with great presence. The other two numbers are okay, but not particularly exciting. The Sinatra piece is what makes the disc worth owning. Unfortunately, I didn't read the fine print closely enough when I bought this and it appears to be a Korean knock-off. It didn't come in a plastic case - it came in a paper folder with the original art, and some of the original blurb, but it had obviously been re-typed as it contained a number of typos that would have never got past any english-speaking proofreader. Baryshnikov misleads Sinatra.
Baryshnikov is a great dancer who shows his age during the filming of this video. He does not fly as high as he used to; but the technique is there. He is an aging Baryshnikov, but he is still better than most dancers will ever aspire to be. This is a simple, even good-natured dance video but there is not enough Sinatra. I happened to love ballet--and Sinatra. I do not know which makes me happier. This film however, was misleading, and disappointing. I expected to hear more Sinatra and to see more of Baryshnikov's legendary technique and choreography. What a match--if Baryshnikov had applied himself to more of "the Voice".Baryshnikov is a great dancer who shows his age during the filming of this video. For the first time, I had the opportunity to watch my granddaughter in the Nutcracket Suite this past Christmas. This was her fourth year to be a part of the production. She was gorgeous (of course.) When I saw Barysnikov's dvd from Netflix, I knew she would love to have it. Therefore, I checked out what was offered on ebay and decided to buy it for her for her birthday that is in July.
