Good for a while
Handy to have, but doesnt have long life as it eats batteries, but is good when you dont want to struggle with a cable? Only really good for low heat applications, but helps at times.

Cheap and cheerful
The unit itself is cheaply made and does not seem to be strong in construction but the main issue is that even with using good quality alkaline batteries the unit does not get hot enough to melt the lightest of solder. Bought for small electrical connections I’ve now gone back to a wired unit

compact soldering marvel
I did not think it possible to solder at all from a device using just 3x AA batteries, but the compact beautifully designed Silverline iron proved me wrong. It has a very fine pointed bit which does heat up within the claimed 15 secs and is ready for a variety of light soldering tasks. I used it to join light gauge connecting wire to terminals and even repair rails on an 'n' gauge railway by sweating them together! Replacing the cap keeps it automatically in a switched off condition making it safe. Surprisingly Good
Whe I opened it at first I was slighly alarmed on how light it was without the battery, but when put the batteries in I was really sold on just how quickly it heats up! I'm thinking of using this now on the smaller jobs at my worskstation over my main iron!
