    Good Gothic mystery/suspense film

    Fans of Gothic books and films should enjoy CRY WOLF. On the plus side, the heroine Sandra (Barbara Stanwyck) is braver and more honest than the typical Gothic female. She investigates suspicious circumstances and doesn't hesitate to tell domineering Uncle Mark exactly what she thinks of him. On the minus side, the explanation for all the mysterious happenings may be anti-climactic to modern viewers. The family secret that Uncle Mark goes to such lengths to hide is not so shameful today. But keep in mind that it would have been cause for secrecy in the nineteen forties.
