I just wanted to get the old records out and enjoy a bit of nostalgia but with a decent sound. I shortlisted from reviews and compared with Orbit essential. New, this Sony was beyond my £200 budget but some 2nd hand/ex-display/opened box versions are available for a lower price and they are definitely worth it. Partnered with a quality amp and good speakers this deck really lifts the detail off a record, gives a detailed presentation but still the warm sound of vinyl. The built in phono amp does a very creditable job. I doubt I'll bother with a separate phono amp but I'm sure some would say it's worth it. Not quite as 'cool' as a specialist manufacturer deck but very easy to use, discreet styling and a quality feel. What more do you need for a happy trip down memory lane on days when you can actually find the time to use vinyl rather than the more user friendly, modern digital sources.Read full review

Had the Ps-lx300usb and found it was a bit beefier than the ps hx500. Mids and highs were also similar. Wasn't much of an upgrade in sound quality. Maybe an audio technica stylus make a difference.

The quality of the turntable is top notch; great weight, dust cover works well and doesn't get in the way. Tone arm functionality is smooth and well balanced. Note, this turntable isn't auto return. People call the design basic, but its not; every piece has been designed with specificity in mind, and overall it looks minimal and well crafted.

The Sony PS-HX500 Turntable is easy to use, sounds great and makes recording of your vinyl records as simple as possible. Highly recommended.

Till I bought this. Massive improvement on my old turntable and above all on the pre-amp quality of my budget pre-amp. Plugged into my system aux to get great sound.
