    A fun romp that teaches the history of math

    Terry Jones, from Monty Python, delivers a history of mathematics from 11000 years ago through Egypt, Sumeria, Greece, Rome, India, Arabia, and Europe. It engaged my studens in both middle school and elementary classrooms - I even developed a unit and used its episode like chapters with projects and lessons. The humor is a bit British but my US students were not turned off by it and were able to both enjoy and learn from it. In my gradebook, that's worth double points! This movie came to my attention thanks to a middle school librarian, when I was struggling with how to engagingly teach math's cultural contexts. I checked it out, and then promptly showed it to friends and families. We all enjoyed it and enjoyed learning from it - so I bought it!

    FUN tour of math's story - you'll laugh *and* know cool facts!

    I use this video to teach a fun 2-week unit in math, and I've used it for a fun way to give friends the fast tour of math history. He was a wonderful dry wit, and the video is only a little dated (the TV / room he uses, and the computing center he uses) and well worth ignoring that!)

    Informative and Funny

    This video is about an hour long and gives information about the history of numbers in an entertaining and funny way. It's definitely rated G (in my opinion). It talks about the number 1 and the number 0, as well as Roman numerals, numbers from other areas of the world (and the lack of numbers in one area of the world), and how Arabic numbers are actually Indian. I found this video very interesting and funny.
