Dragon View 1st person real time RPG on the SNES!! Unique RPG Fun
I recently decided to go back and hook up my old SNES to replay some of the claasics that i had played in the past. DRAGON VIEW Heres a little gem of a game that is basicly unheard of and looked at as a realy good game by the few who do know of it. The story of the game is a classic save your loved one from the ultimate evil, with a few other classic rpg cleche's mixed in. The real unique qualities of the game come as the gameplay. The Short and effective story (cut scenes) are done in 2D from a side view. The world exploration is in SNES 3D which gives the game a unique feeling of roaming the lands. Yes the graphics of the world are limited by the SNES but look ok and there is a compass along with 2 in game maps consisting of the general world map you always have & a local area map ... Yes the graphics of the world are limited by the SNES but look ok and there is a compass along with 2 in game maps consisting of the general world map you always have & a local area map which has to be found or given to you by an NPC(Non Player Character) to help you from getting lost. As you wonder throgh the world map you will find caves (dungeons), warp points (too help get around the map faster) and of course monsters. The monsters in the world map show up as ground level "clouds" they move in real time, so if you want you normaly have the option to run from them which helps by giving you the option to get back to town if your out of health potions and need healing. The battles occure when you run into one of the "clouds" or if it catches you. The actual battles happen in real time "2.5D" which is 2D but with depth, (similar to a fast version of Golden Axe). You run around with your sword hacking and stabbing a variety of monsters, as you kill monsters they drop coins wich is the money of the game and like most RPGs you gain EXP from winning a battle. The level up stats +2armor +4ATTK are preset and stay the same through the game. So it may seem futile later to build up a dozen or so ATTK but it can make a big differance. All the caves/Dungeons are in this 2.5D side scrolling made as well. The Shops in the game only offer a few things to buy like health potions, arrows, bombs & a few other things. The Big jumps in your ATTK and Armor power come from leveling your weapon and armor. This is done by finding preset power ups in treasure chests throughout the game in dungeons. The power ups along with "magical" sword attacks that are found in the world map make it possible to kill stronger monsters. Each map section has its own look and musical theme. The best factors of the game are, the sense of exploration and fear invoking worry of getting lost, the 2D battles like the dungeons, no "random battles" like in most of the turn based 16bit RPGs, the music & the graphics of the 2D battles through a composite(standard) SNES video cable. The weak points are the limited graphics of the world due to the NES not doing great 3D, the difficulty curve can be very unforgiving if you don't have the character level or weapon/armor upgade you need, the battles graphics if you use a S-video cable for your SNES. (fog sprites looks odd through a SNES with a S-video cable) My numerical ratings 1-10 higher is better, GRAPHICS 6-7 This game looks unique, but the 3D is realy limited. SOUND 8 Sounds like a SNES game. GAMEPLAY 8.5 Its an RPG so its repetitious (leveling) but the real time combat and dungeons are fast & fun. If you like Sword of Vermillion on the Sega GENESIS then get this game! If you like 2.5D hack em ups like Knights of the round or golden axe I think you would like this game. Thank you for your time.

Dragon View is worth your time and money!
I bought this game because it is an old childhood favorite of mine! I used to rent it at a local video store where I grew up. I wanted to add it to my collection and I'm glad I did! Yeah it has a cheesy storyline, the same old "girl in distress" plot, but it's an awesome action/adventure game. The gameplay is great; you battle monsters in a side scrolling fashion similar to an old-school beat em up game, but it includes rpg elements such as leveling up and buying items at shops. The sprite and backgrounds are really vibrant, someone put a lot of time into those details. There's a lot of mystery involved if you've never played it before; there's little extra things to find and some exploring to do. Sometimes it can be hard to figure out where to go, but that kinda adds to the game in my ... I bought this game because it is an old childhood favorite of mine!
