Brilliant historical casualty department drama based on true life accounts
I remember watching this series when it originaly aired on tv. Couldn't find it anywhere to stream so opted for the dvd complete set and, boy am I glad I did. It's even better than I remembered. If you enjoy period dramas and are interested in the ways of how a busy hospital in early 1900's London worked then don't hesitate, treat yourself, you won't be dissappointed.

Compelling viewing.
The drama is based onreal life records from the London Hospital from the 1900's. It is realistic and effectively portrays the poverty and ignorance that the hospital staff were contending with and that much of the illness and disease was caused by a lack of a proper diet,sanitation,decent housing, poor unsafe working conditions,etc. It also shows the early development of new procedures, like X rays, the risks taken by the medics to develop new technology and the dedication of the staff.It's well adapted for a TV drama and the acting from Cherie Lungi, William Houston and other actors is excellent as are the sets and costumes. it's also very interesting as they give some facts and figures as well.The hypocrisy of some of the 'upper classes' as well as the hospital ... very interesting for those in the medical field
I have not watched this dvd myself as I bought it for my 86yr old aunt in Scotland who did her nursing training at the hospital featured in this dvd. It was wonderful to be able to buy it in the UK so it arrived very quickly. My mother has watched it and recommended that I buy it. As a nurse my mother thoroughly enjoyed it.
