I love books on all ideas of life ( beginnings, beliefs, ect. )
As i passionate researcher and student on the human mind, conciousness, belief, why we believe, the start of religions, all of the theories...and i will always be a student and love thinking or learning of new ways of thinking. I find it fascinating how human beings believe so strongly in things they cant possibly know this goes to every single person reading this...i am not a atheist i am not a Christian....i am a simple mind thinking on very complicated and extraordinary things. .questions we have been asking and seeking since we first looked to the stars..personally i have herd many arguments he brings up on religion but you have to study religion too not just hear the headlines of the bad and history books accounts of crazed religious leaders...as religion can be like all religions i ... I find it fascinating how human beings believe so strongly in things they cant possibly know this goes to every single person reading this...i am not a atheist i am not a Christian....i am a simple mind thinking on very complicated and extraordinary things. .questions we have been asking and seeking since we first looked to the stars..personally i have herd many arguments he brings up on religion but you have to study religion too not just hear the headlines of the bad and history books accounts of crazed religious leaders...as religion can be like all religions i have studied used as a tool to gain human spirituality of enlightenment and yes you can achieve this also by skipping this tool that man and woman created over years of trying to understand life... to self heal, to find inner peace among this world, to live with earths energy and bring love into your heart and religions can do that but also can create many evils as it has been said Christians were the worst thing to happen to christianity... faith will always be dangerous when in get perverted among the masses...as many beliefs can... i believe individually most people are good put 6 good men together and bad things can happen.. so for atheist my fight is well....whats the point...point of anything.... you see creation and believe we came from apes...because its science but as i felt with adam and eve i feel this with the modern evolution theory...i will never believe that humans put of everything even creatures older then us have evolved so much we can create the things we have and the brain we have...by eating meat to fuel out growing brains as alligators are much older and have evolved in some ways but they are not even using tools yet...so to tell me all the billions upon billions of creatures to come and go we somehow got so lucky to become this amazing.. yes some creatures are also amazing and can do things we can not but not on ter technology level.. if a advanced race or god/gods did not taper in some way with us then i cann not really accept any other guesses....there have been all these skulls found set up to show our. Evolution but there are tons of ape and humanoid skulls found that science knows about but just tucks away...different species long since gone....i believe we have evolved in some ways but i find holes in many things with this...walking up right...because apes had to look out for predators on the plains of ancient africa...many creatures do this and have been for millennia and still walk on all 4s....now for you Christians there are many holes well in the bible the issue is if you can not take it all literally then really how can you pick and choose what was more important then other things as why there are so many denominations and man is evil and the book was re written many times....many books left out like Thomas which is first hand accounts of jesus..the book of enoch...dead sea scrolls...they put the bible together by many books over many years....i do not believe the bible was ment to be literal it is definitely out dated...sexist as hell as were the times...i believe it can be used as a great guide and tool on how to live...but to die and kill for and to go all in on and close your minds no... men and religion its just dangerous it should really be the best selling self help book there is many amazing things said in there on how to live...now for science people knocking the bible for being stupid and not having science in them....well stupid...science was not invented and the people writing these things are trying to explain things they simply couldn't...if anything i think science backs up bibles claims...space time...i might get this wrong but to god 3 days to him in 2,000 years for us...well travel faster then light to another universe this would be as of today's physics shows times would slow down incredibly now i thought that is neat that was in the bible...also god made adam or eve..forgive me from mud and a rib...or something like that again apologize for not getting the details...but hey we came from mud..bacteria and single cells...the evolved...and a rib......dna i wonder....so anyway this is a good read to continue my quest for information and i feel even if a being came from the heavens and said they created us i still would be skeptical because if they can space travel im sure they can lie....also who ever crested us the advancement of their knowledge and understanding would be like us....us being ants watch a human build a nuclear missile...we can not pretend to know why..how or what anything is and if you say you know well you dont...i do not think we are supposed or not yet...i always felt like we are god...1 millon years from now as 1 collective conciousness. Finally someone who puts into words the line of thought I have slowly acquired after looking at the damage done by so called "fundamentalists" like George W.Bush and the religious organizations who voted for him. My line of thought has been for years that if there was a God who created the earth and everything on it; why did He create so many animals that live only by killing other animals. Why not create peaceful plant eaters from the smallest creature in the oceans to the largest predators. All could have been, God willing, peaceful plant eaters living side by side in paradise. I could also never understand how all human beings stem from Adam and Eve; in other words God allowed incest how else could we have multiplied. All religions claim to be the One religion to be the ... Sadly this whole story we know as the old testament is nothing but the phantasies of old men with long beards and the new testament is wishful thinking of a better world through a higher Being. People are so blinded by their religion that they cannot see the wonders of nature striving to built a better world and having succeeded beyond all measure. I stand in awe in front of a sequoia tree in sequoia park and look at an example of nature at its best. Older than any church built without the help of any human being. Many times over a period of two thousand years have flames consumed all surrounding vegetation but the sequoia is protected by its bark that will not burn. I pity those readers who see the work of "Satan" in Dawkins writing and Just smile at the naive person who offers a prayer to something that does not exist. I pity them those who shrink away in horror from the thought that there is no higher Being. nature is my "Church" and I am crateful that nature has created me and given me a brain to think. What a waste to use this marvel that took nature millions of years to perfect on delusions of a God.

Great book by a great scientist.
Richard Dawkins is one of the finest science authors of our day. As a science teacher, I find myself referring to his books often. It is high time we started questioning religious authorities and ideas. Dawkins shows that it is noble to do so. The only negative reviews possible for this book will be written by those who have not read it, or have "hardened their hearts" to the wonders of science. The book is well-written, well documented, a pleasure to read. I also recommend "Climbing Mount Improbable" and "The Selfish Gene", and "Ancestor's Tale". Just as the title implies...why God can't exist!
Dawkins, outspoken atheist and prominent critic of religion, whose colleagues may disagree with what he has to say and what he bases his theories/logic on... even his intellect and knowledge on the subject come under scrutiny by scholars and "believers"...I found this book to be written in a highly intelligent and rational fashion...the arguments for atheism by Dawkins are strong and very well researched...it's up to the individual reader to believe or not to believe...but have "Faith", you'll enjoy this book whether atheist, agnostic or believer... I recommend this book to anyone with the intellect to understand it!!! if you are a "Faithful Believer and Devout Church-Goer", this book may offend you, but everyone has a right to express their ... Dawkins is the delusional one.
To clear up a point made by the last reviewer. God oringinaly created all animals to be plant eaters, it was not until after the fall of man that man and animals were required to feel pain. This is all laid out in the bible. Now, on to my main point. I am dissapointed that anyone would read just one book and come to the conclusion that God does not exist. If you do just a little research about evolution, the creation of the universe, etc... you will find that it takes far more faith to be an athiest than it does to be a christian. For instance, the "Big Bang" is the accepted theory of the universe which lays out the fact that the universe had a beginning, therefore a creator. Evolution basically states that inanimate matter managed to orginize itself and eventually ... To clear up a point made by the last reviewer.
