Magimix offers parts for even their oldest machines, and these are available online. Sage, on the other hand, has a handful of accessories available online. Other than that, they hide behind a phone number. I did ring to enquire about parts outside of warranty, but was fobbed off. The customer service was dreadful. Sage claims this machine has a 2000w motor. This influenced my decision to buy the machine. The machine jams and overheats way too easily for something with a 2000w motor. At one point, there was actually a small amount of what appeared to be smoke, coming from the motor whilst making a small quantity of breadcrumbs. It took almost an hour to cool down. A motor would need to be extremely inefficient to suffer this lack of power and still draw 2000w. This made me very suspicious. I used a plug-in meter to find out what was going on. It turns out that even when the motor struggles or even stops, the motor is in fact only drawing just over 1000w. If it really was 2000 watts, rather than jamming, it would simply draw an additional 800/900w of power. This in itself is simply not at all acceptable. This machine claims to knead dough. The reality is that it will bring the dough together, ready to be kneaded by hand or in a mixer. If you attempt to knead the dough ball, the machine struggles. This happens even when trying to knead less than the amount specified in the manual. The motor overheats and makes the dough too hot, even when using cold water for the dough. Either the dough is formed into a tall column that doesn't get kneaded and works it's way into where the spindle goes, or the machine shakes very violently. Due to the machines weight, it is impossible to steady, when this happens. You just have to switch it off. This is not something you want landing on your toe. The fact that the smaller bowl seals, was something that drew me to the Sage over the Magimix. Unfortunately, the fact that the small bowl seals at the top seems irrelevant, because even small amounts of anything wet, ends up in the main bowl anyway. This is because there is no seal at the bottom. The adjustable slicing blade is very handy. It's unfortunate that the blade itself is slightly angled, meaning thinner slices are noticeably tapered. The cap on the small pusher/measuring cup doesn't seal. This means that after washing it you have to take the cap of every time and dry inside. I didn't want food processor for chopping, because it makes a lot of mess and isn't very consistent. In this regard, this machine has exceeded my expectations. However, the asking price of this machine is far too high for something that's good at chopping. Aside from jamming, it's quite good at grating. It's very fast at this. Then there's all the washing up. I daren't use the dishwasher for fear of ending up with a cracked bowl, as others have experienced. It's very expensive to replace. The machine has a lot of nooks and grannies, where food gets inside and is difficult to clean. The metal cover for the motor housing does look nice, and gives the impression of good quality. It's grey plastic if you look underneath. The lights that surround the control switches are not symmetrical, which gives the impression that this machine was produced in China too cheaply. One of the switches, the pulse button, just doesn't feel quite as positive as the other two. There are obviously some quality control issues. It's a good machine, but not worth anything like what it cost me. It's a shame because I was sold on what it says on the tin. This machine doesn't do it. I planned to try this machine out and sell it after a couple of years due to parts not being available. But I've ended up with a machine I'd be worried to sell on, in case the buyer doesn't know about its quirks, burns out the motor, and comes to me for a refund. Read full review
