About this product

Product Information

A private citizen discovers compelling evidence that a decades-old murder in Nashville was not committed by the man who went to prison for the crime but was the result of a conspiracy involving elite members of Nashville society. Nashville 1964. Eighteen-year-old babysitter Paula Herring is murdered in her home while her six-year-old brother apparently sleeps through the grisly event. A few months later a judge's son is convicted of the crime. Decades after the slaying, Michael Bishop, a private citizen, stumbles upon a secret file related to the case and with the help of some of the world's top forensic experts--including forensic psychologist Richard Walter (aka "the living Sherlock Holmes")--he uncovers the truth. What really happened is completely different from what the public was led to believe. Now, for the very first time, Bishop reveals the true story. In this true-crime page-turner, the author lays out compelling evidence that a circle of powerful citizens were key participants in the crime and the subsequent cover-up. The ne'er-do-well judge's son, who was falsely accused and sent to prison, proved to be the perfect setup man. The perpetrators used his checkered history to conceal the real facts for over half a century. Including interviews with the original defense attorney and a murder confession elicited from a nursing-home resident, the information presented here will change Nashville history forever.

"True-crime readers will find a unique opportunity within the pages of A Murder in Music City . The author did not simply report a story; he investigated a murder. Readers will experience the actual unfolding of the murder probe, with all the description and detail that come only from living the criminal investigation. Prepare to be enthralled by this inside look at an unforgettable story."   --Jack and Mary Branson, authors of Delayed Justice: Inside Stories from America's Best Cold Case Investigators, ""A fascinating and chilling look at Nashville's seedy underbelly, with a view of the city only the locals generally see. True crime aficionados are going to clamor for this well-told, intriguing tale of murder and betrayal. What other secrets might Bishop uncover?" --J. T. Ellison, New York Times-bestselling author of Lie to Me"Bound to be one of the year's most memorable true-crime books. A page-turner. Intriguing. --John Ferak, bestselling true-crime author of Failure of Justice: A Brutal Murder, An Obsessed Cop, Six Wrongful Convictions"A riveting, astonishing story of murder, betrayal, and corruption--but most of all, a story of a dogged amateur sleuth who spends almost two decades chasing leads, connecting nearly invisible dots, unearthing the truth, and attaining a measure of long-overdue justice for a murdered girl." --Jon Jefferson, of Jefferson Bass, author of the New York Times-bestselling Body Farm novels"An amateur detective on the trail of a fall guy wrongly convicted for a babysitter's murder in Nashville in 1964 is a very good story, and when he hooks up with 'the living Sherlock Holmes' to find truth and justice, it's a great story! Highly recommended."--Michael Capuzzo, New York Times-bestselling author of The Murder Room and Close to Shore"Intrigued by some unanswered questions in the seemingly solved 1964 murder of Tennessee coed Paula Herring, researcher Michael Bishop begins to investigate the case and ends up uncovering the dark, shocking secrets at the heart of this decades-old mystery. A riveting real-life detective story that reads like page-turning fiction." --Harold Schechter, author of The Mad Sculptor: The Maniac, The Model, and the Murder that Shook the Nation "True-crime readers will find a unique opportunity within the pages of A Murder in Music City. • This book is taking Nashville, Tn. by storm.

My wife and I had a hard time putting this book down. My hat is off to the author, Michael Bishop because he spent years investigating this crime and solving this horrible crime in which the wrong person was convicted. Mary Hance a writer with the Nashville Tennessean listed this book as her number one choice of 18 books you will want to pick up and read this summer.

  • A great book!

I was personally acquainted with the wife of the accused since she was my high school teacher, so this was especially interesting. The writer did a lot of research and his theory was very reasonable. Good reading!
