The Title of this movie is clear.

This story is quite faithful to the facts of the life of this remarkable Belgian priest who chose to live in a leper colony while still a man in his early 30's even though he knew it to be a permanent assignment and a death sentence. Father Damien was truly an an excellent example of True Christian Love and Selflessness! Only if everyone in the world today would emulate Father Damien.......there would be peace on earth....unlike what is going on with the War with Russia and the Ukraine. Father Damien is a Great Saint in Heaven! The horrors of the leper colony were conveyed realistically. The bureaucrats, both civil and religious, are well portrayed. This is a "must see" for anyone who has never heard the story of Father Damien or knows little about the leper colony on Molokai.

  • Molokai: Good

I had always known about Father Damien and his life (and greatly admired it), so when there happened to be a movie about him, I thought I would get it. The movie, overall, was good. The story was nice, and the life of Father Damien was very inspiring. I particularly liked how human the movie portayed Father Damien, because the movie wasn't a simple story about a saint-like figure who gave cared and loved about the lepers. It was about how a priest overcame his own conflicting emotions and temptations that all men would experience and, despite all that, still gave selfless love out to the people who needed it. If there was something that I didn't like, it was the pace of the movie. Maybe it's just because I'm used to the pace/screenplay of the more modern movies, but the movie seemed to ...

  • True story of the servant of Molokai.

Father Damien’s story is a compelling movie of love, faith and service. It is a must-watch for anyone interested in Hawaii’s history of the leper colony on Molokai.

  • Molokai: The Story of Father Damien

My nephew now in his late twenties was named after Saint Damien of Molokai. When I found that he had little knowledge of his saint, I decided to buy the DVD, Molokai: The Story of Father Damien. The story starts with Father Damien volunteering to go to Molokai to minister to Lepers that have been sent to the Hawaiian Island of Molokai to isolate them from the general public. When Father Damien arrives in Molokai, he finds horrible living conditions for the almost 1000 Lepers living there. They had no medical care, little food and lived in shacks that they had managed to build for themselves from whatever they could salvage such as tree branches and palm leaves. Father Damien discovers an Englishman among the Lepers and he learned that the Englishman was a medic who specialized in ...
