A great show for those with an open mind
Queer as Folk is a groundbreaking TV series that shattered many taboos concerning the gay communities of america. Following the lives of 5 gay men and 2 lesbian women, it's easiest to call it a gay person's "Sex and the City", but it is definitely more than just that. Every episode has a huge political statement to make, whether its about gay marriage, job discrimination, or family disownment. This is a brutally realistic vision of life in a gay district, with promiscuous sex, constant drug use, and life with HIV are all touched on and never shied away from. The characters are all extremely complex individuals who challenge stereotypical views of all gays and also entertain immensely. This is also a very funny show, as it is constantly taking things in stride and joking all the way. ... Queer as Folk is a groundbreaking TV series that shattered many taboos concerning the gay communities of america. Sometimes the show can be so witty and sarcastic that it could be mistaken for a comedy at first glance. Season 3 is my favorite because of the inner-conflicts that rage throughout (characters who sell out to work with homophobes, a meth addict losing all of his friends, steroid use to combat HIV, etc.) and is probably the most emotionally engaging. The best show ever? Maybe not, but it's pretty damn important, and it's still pretty damn close.

The REAL Lives of the Gay Community
This is a high quality show. The narration and plot is very full unlike other cheap productions of similar nature. This is not your typical show about the lives of people who are gay. Every day isn't just decorating or styling your hair. Its real people with real issues like business ownership, death of family members, purchasing a home, the birth of children, and much more. Of course, there are many things that are different in the life of someone who is openly gay, and this show is the only one edgy enough to show it. Whether it is losing your rights over your child, being spit upon, beaten into a coma, or having a bomb go off at your equal rights gathering, Queer as Folk touches all aspects of life. And that includes sex, lots of it. If you are ready to pull the plug on ... This is a high quality show. The narration and plot is very full unlike other cheap productions of similar nature.
